Tool Spotlight: Big Interview (with an Added Focus on Soft Skills)

While you are a student, take full advantage of Duke’s subscription to Big Interview, a practice and advice tool for interviewing. Follow the intake process by answering some questions and get AI feedback and an action plan based on the videos you record.

You know how you learn best and what you need. You also have the opportunity to choose from a variety of options:

  • work through a sequence of modules with the fast track and mastery lessons 
  • jump right into a varied collection of practice interviews 
  • target your effort with their question library and answer builder.  You’ll also have access to a series of “interview playbooks” to use for specialized categories like new graduate, non-native English speakers, military transition, disabilities, neurodiversity, LGBTQ+, introverts, and more.

If you’re practicing your response to questions about soft skills, enter the “practice” section of the site and review questions “by competency.” There you will find question sets that pair well with the skills that hiring managers identified as most important in LinkedIn’s 2019 report on the top soft skills.
