Formatting Hack: Align Your Resume in 3 Steps!

There are 2 things in the world that annoy me:

  1. a full C1 before my 10:15am class in Ruby (and I’m not on it)
  2. failing to align the right side of my resume

I’ve spent hours trying to align my resume content by staring at the screen and hitting the space bar intensely. But whenever I find that perfect alignment, a minor edit elsewhere in the document would mess everything up again. Have you felt that frustration before?

What if I tell you, that there’s a way to instantly align everything in Microsoft Word that doesn’t require further adjustment after future edits?

Well, the secret ingredient is TABLES!

Step 1: Use a table to contain the titles that needs to be aligned. (The words in the left column is left aligned, and the right column is right aligned)

Step 2: Hide the borders of the table.

Step 3: Copy & paste & repeat for all sections.

There you have it! The tables will align no matter what margin you use or how you edit the other parts of your resume.

Now I only have the full C1 to worry about.
