Sonya Jones
Peer Education Program Coordinator
Academic Resource Center (ARC)
We want to continue to acknowledge helpful humans at Duke who are having career conversations with students. Sonya Jones, from Duke ARC, was nominated to be an influencer by a Duke staff member.
“Sonya has been a member of the ARC for over 8 years. She started with the ARC as our staff assistant, and now serves as the ARC Peer Education coordinator, a role that engages with students who serve as ARC peer educators. Sonya consistently engages with her students and encourages them not only in their current position with the ARC, but in conversations with them about their future plans. She serves as a college advisor, and works to make and maintain connections with multiple groups outside of the ARC, particularly campus groups who work with Students of Color such as the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture and the Center for Multicultural Affairs. Finally, Sonya continues to pursue her own professional development, recently being elected to the Executive Board for the Southeastern College Learning Center Association, and she recently started her doctoral studies in educational leadership at ECU.”
