We are pleased to have hosted 24 students for our first-ever Case Competition! Congratulations to all participants on a fantastic event—your hard work, creativity, and dedication truly made this experience a success.

You’re invited to the first annual Case Competition offered by the Duke Career Center in partnership with AspinRock! Teams of up to 3 Undergraduate students are invited to compete for our top prize of $1,500! Other exciting prizes available for 2nd and 3rd place finalists.

The Duke Career Center Case Competition’s registration opening date is Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Registration will close on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

  4. Paper Submission: January 31st, 2025 Paper Submission
  5. Submission Review and Finalist Selection: February 1st – 3rd, 2025
  6. Presentation Submission: February 6th, 2025
  7. Finalist Pitch Period: February 7, 2025

  • No experience? No problem!
    • We ask that one member of each team have some experience with casing whether professional or self-taught. There’s still time to consider attending the “Case Interview Intensive Workshop” offered by Case Questions. Register on Handshake. 
  • You can enter alone or as a pair. We will help form complete teams and will work to ensure one member of each team has prior casing experience, if possible.
  • Topics will prioritize financial analysis and modeling.
  • As a participant in this competition, you will receive a complimentary resume review and an invitation to connect with a Career Center Advisor before the competition begins.
  • Registered teams will receive a Case Competition Guidebook and Folder, which includes:

    • Competition Rubric
    • Additional Resources for Support

Up to three students per team – at least one student should have prior experience completing a practice case study.

  1. All students interested in applying must submit a short interest statement.
  1. If you are applying as part of a team, please include your team members’ names during the registration process.
  1. You can enter as an individual or a team of two. If needed, we will help fill any missing team members.
  1. Updated Resume with demonstrated experience*

  • Orientation Kick-Off Session (All Teams in attendance) 
  • Two Weeks of Project Development  
    Teams of 3 students work on a case centered on a company’s acquisition. Students will receive a project scope document and have access to free resources and PowerPoint materials such as financial analysis and modeling presentations. 
  • Virtual Q&A Sessions (Offered once weekly)  
    2 sessions will be hosted virtually by members of AspinRock’s team. Offered each Friday afternoon (12-1 PM). These sessions will be recorded for students unable to attend. 
  • Finalist Pitch Period 
    Finalists will present their cases to a panel of judges on February 7, 2025. Winning teams will be selected (1st to 3rd place). 

Participating in a Case Competition can be a great value add to your resume to communicate the skill set and expertise you gain from the experience. See below for an example of how you might include it in your resume and additional resources.
