This post marks 11 months since I started this series. If you’ve been following along, you’ve received a lot of encouragement to experiment with your job search. I hope some of these experiments produced positive results!
I know how stressful this process can be, and that’s what encouraged me to start this series in the first place. My goal has always been to identify actionable steps that might make the experience a little more manageable. So, this month is about looking back at your job search and taking stock of the experience so far.
✅ Inventory: Write down any progress you can acknowledge from the past month or year. What do you attribute that progress to? What has been working for you?
✅ Calibrate: Schedule time with a friend or loved one (double points if it’s in person) to update them on your journey. Let them know what your next steps are and how you’d like their support moving forward.
✅ Research: Is it time to consider alternative options? If you’ve been between roles for a while, spend some time researching adjacent roles, industries, or organizations that might value your existing skills.
✅ Celebrate: It may sound counterintuitive for me to encourage you to celebrate your wins, but there’s nothing too small to appreciate. Take some time to acknowledge the progress you’ve made. Invite some friends to celebrate with you!
Feel free to reach out if you have questions. Please remember that you’re never alone in this process. Consider booking an appointment with a Career Advisor or reach out to someone you trust for support. Every action item listed above can be supported by the incredible team at the Career Center.
P.S. Everything I share is focused on helping you explore opportunities in the United States but can be applied elsewhere.
