Find people, communities, and events

Test out whether different fields, organizations, or roles suit you well by participating in their communities. There are lots of levels of commitment, from attending a single event to becoming a student leader within a professional society.

✅  Better understand fields, organizations, or roles by reviewing this directory of opportunities and committing to one action that helps you to learn while connecting with people in a profession that attracts you.

✅  Use the Duke Alumni Directory, LinkedIn, or any of your existing networks to find someone who can offer you insights and advice from their own background and experiences. These are called informational interviews.

✅  Write a list of the people who might serve as a reference for you when you’re offered an internship or job. Aim to have 3-5 people who could speak about your work, style, and ethic. Talk to a coach if you want to make a plan for working closely with others who could give a reference.
