Position Summary
Under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) delivers hands-on therapy to patients with injuries or conditions affecting muscles, joints, bones, or nerves. The goal is to improve function, reduce pain, and increase strength and independence.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program
Licensed PTA in good standing in Michigan
BLS certification (within 3 months of hire)
Valid Michigan driver’s license, access to a vehicle for business use, and current auto insurance (required for Bronson at Home coverage)
Basic PC/mobile device skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the care team
Preferred: Prior experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant
Physical & Mental Demands
Significant standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 lbs
Occasional patient lifting and repositioning
Visual and mental attention required for documentation and multitasking
Some fatiguing or physically straining motions may be necessary
Clinical Responsibilities
Follow treatment plan and goals set by the Physical Therapist
Provide direct patient care using physical, electrical, mechanical, and heat-based therapies
Lead individual or group therapy activities
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and team discussions
Educate patients, families, and the community
Assist in program development and serve as a resource in areas of expertise
Provide in-services and participate in student rotations
Cross-cover within the Bronson Rehab System as needed
Administrative Responsibilities
Document care provided, progress, and updates in the EHR per compliance timelines
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all patient records
Communicate any documentation limitations to leadership
Participate in process improvement efforts
Serve on committees or task forces
Demonstrate effective time management
Supervise Rehab Clinical Assistants, PTA students, and volunteers
The PTA is also responsible for continuously maintaining and upgrading their clinical competencies based on the population served and evolving healthcare practices.
