Job Title: Construction Laborer
Department: Field Operations
Reports To: Foreman / Superintendent
Position Summary
Civil Site Services is seeking a dependable and hardworking Construction Laborer to assist with all phases of heavy civil construction projects. This position supports crews by performing physical labor, operating hand and power tools, maintaining job site safety, and assisting with site preparation, grading, utility installation, concrete work, erosion control, and other construction activities. The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, values teamwork, and is committed to working safely in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform general labor tasks on heavy civil construction projects.
- Assist with excavation, grading, trenching, and backfilling operations.
- Install underground utilities including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
- Prepare job sites by clearing debris, setting up equipment, and organizing materials.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials and equipment.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, compactors, and other construction equipment as directed.
- Assist with concrete forming, pouring, finishing, and curing.
- Install erosion and sediment control measures.
- Direct traffic around work zones when required.
- Perform site cleanup and maintain a safe, organized work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Work effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, and fellow crew members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous construction or heavy civil experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites.

- Basic understanding of construction tools and equipment.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong attention to safety and quality.
- Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as project schedules require.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
- Work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites.
- Exposure to dust, mud, noise, vibration, and changing weather conditions.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, reflective vests, and steel-toed boots.
