Summary

Spark is seeking a dynamic and motivated Communications & Marketing Intern to support our

organizational communications, public relations, and marketing efforts. This is a hands-on

internship ideal for a student or emerging professional seeking real-world experience in

community engagement, digital communications, and creative storytelling in the nonprofit sector.

The Communications Intern will work both independently and collaboratively to support strategic

initiatives, content development, and event promotion. This role reports directly to the Multimedia

Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, writing, and managing email marketing campaigns and newsletters

• Support maintenance and updates of Spark’s website (Squarespace).

• Design marketing materials, including flyers, graphics, and social media visuals.

• Update and maintain Spark’s social media presence, including drafting and scheduling

posts on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

• Write press releases, impact stories, and community partner testimonials.

• Capture photos and quotes at events and meetings; organize and archive visual content.

• Monitor social media trends and analytics and contribute to campaign strategy.

• Help prepare communication materials for events, presentations, and outreach efforts.

• Attend planning meetings and assist with event setup, documentation, and promotion.

• Contribute creative ideas for campaigns and community engagement strategies.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Pursuing or completed studies in Communications, Marketing, Journalism,

Public Relations, or a related field.

• Firm grasp of social media platforms and basic analytics.

• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is highly preferred.

• Basic knowledge of website CMS (e.g., Squarespace) and email platforms.Basic photography and graphic design skills are a plus.

• Organized, proactive, and able to meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment.

• Interest in community engagement, nonprofits, and storytelling with impact.

Duration and Compensation

• Term: 12 weeks, with the option to extend.

o Anticipated start date to be the end of August, beginning of September.

• Hours: 10 to 15 hours per week during Spark business hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM,

Monday through Friday), with occasional weekends.

• Pay: $20/hour

Learning Outcomes

• Apply advanced video production and design techniques through real-world projects, from

concept to final product.

• Apply principles of marketing and public relations in a mission-driven organization.

• Develop a professional portfolio of graphics, digital content, event collateral, and press

releases.

• Gain firsthand experience working with community partners and nonprofit stakeholders.
