Stagedoor Manor is seeking Group Leaders to join our team for the 2025 Summer Season.

Stagedoor Manor is a Theater Summer Camp-the premier summertime training ground for young performers ages 10 to 18 from all over the world. Located in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Stagedoor Manor is housed in a former summer resort. For over 49 years, passionate young performers have come to us to learn more about their art, and themselves while making lifelong friends along the way. Each camper is cast in one of 14 productions that take place each session in addition they take classes in any number of theatrical subjects. Outside of theatre the campers make lasting memories with activities such as Cast vs Cast Volleyball, Movie nights, DJ dances, and Talent shows just to name a few.

We at Stagedoor Manor are committed to all levels of talent and experience. Students are admitted (without auditions) on a first come/first serve basis. Our primary purpose is to create an enriching summer atmosphere where young people can learn and grow through the fun of theater. “Process, rather than product” is the Stagedoor mantra. Education is our mission, and community is our goal.

Each Group Leader at Stagedoor serves as the manager of a floor located in our dorms. They are responsible for and lead their direct group of counselors and campers, ensuring their well being. Collectively the team of 5 Group Leaders work with both the Camp Director and Asst. Camp Director to facilitate the day to day operation of camp life at Stagedoor. Everything from “wake up” to daily room inspections to running evening recreation activities (like movies, DJ dances, etc), etc.

We will say this many times: Group Leaders and Counselors are the backbone of Stagedoor. Without having a caretaker for our campers, we would not have such a successful program. If you are interested in joining this amazing team please read the extended job description below.

Typical duties include:

  • Waking up the counselors
  • Making sure campers/counselors are going to breakfast
  • Supervising room clean up
  • Inspecting the campers rooms

Daily duties include:

  • Going to “group” meetings
  • Taking attendance
  • Going on rounds
  • Organizing and delivering mail
  • Supervising Evening Recreation
  • Supervising laundry
  • Performing office hours
  • Wake up, class announcements, and curfew calls
  • HOD (Head On Duty) x2 times a week
  • Dining room duty
  • Camper/counselor curfew
  • Nighttime supervision
  • Evaluating counselor performance
  • Taking or overseeing recreation activities

Summary:

You will need to be flexible and understanding throughout the summer. You will have to cope with many varied problems. Counselors may come to you with problems and hassles, this may be a simple problem like scheduling, or it may be a personal problem like homesickness. With campers, the GL will play the heavy and the counselors will play the friend. Listen to the people around you. Join in with what they are doing instead of always being the one telling them what to do. Let them know when they are doing great, not just when they need to be corrected.

You have to remember to laugh! This is a fun job! You are going to meet exciting people from other countries and you are going to experience more theatre than perhaps you have seen in your whole life. Working with kids, making new friends, and watching the magic of theater unfold around you – what a great way to spend the summer!

Present openings Include:

Barrymore Group Leader:

Group Leader for our male assigned dorm. Working with 10 counselors and approx. 80 campers aged 10-18 years old.

Hollywood Group Leader:

Group Leader for our eldest female assigned dorm. Working with 4 counselors and approx. 30 campers aged 17-18 years old.

Please Note: ALL POSITION INCLUDE FREE Housing, all meals, and Travel Stipend.
