Niche Industry Job Boards
A “job board” is a centralized online platform where employers and recruiters advertise open positions to job seekers. Common job boards include LinkedIn, Indeed, and ZipRecruiter. While these websites can still be helpful for sourcing opportunities, we’ve found that tailoring your search to job boards specific to your field(s) of interest can positively impact your overall job search experience.
Since many students hear us refer to “niche job boards” but are unsure where to begin, we’ve compiled a list of options organized by Career Community to help streamline the process.
If you have additional questions, you can:
- Follow your preferred Career Community on the Career Hub. By selecting the “Follow” button, you will receive weekly updates featuring resources, blogs, and available positions.
- Follow the Duke University Career Center on LinkedIn for resources, advice, available positions, and more.
Please note: This list is not exhaustive. If you have additional questions, consider scheduling an appointment with a team member by using Handshake to discuss this information further.

- Management Consulted’s Job Board (Early and Mid-Career Consulting)
- Knowtern (A great database of opportunities across finance, consulting, and tech, including diversity programs. Since it’s 2025’s list, I’d suggest using it to gather information and potential leads)
- Handshake (Consider the dedicated “collection” of curated opportunities too)
- Suggestion: Make a list of companies you’re curious about. Many of these firms, especially the larger ones, don’t have to worry about attracting talent. So don’t expect to find many job boards covering these industries. It’s in your best interest to plug into the sector and familiarize yourself with the organizations YOU want to pay attention to. Start by bookmarking their careers pages.
- Suggestion: Make it your mission to understand general hiring timelines. Every year is different, but if applications typically open in August, you could begin networking and refining your materials in May and June. This’ll give you time to act on the advice you receive.
- Wellfound (Startup and tech roles, leans more toward technical backgrounds)
- Y Combinator Jobs (Opportunities across a wide range of startups)
- Dribbble (Product, UX/UI, and visual design roles)
- Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship Network [LINKEDIN GROUP; Log-in first]
- Once you’re accepted, take a moment to understand how people engage before jumping in. If your school has an entrepreneurship center, that’s also a great place to start.
Here are a few suggestions on approaching these industries:
- Don’t get stuck on titles. Focus on the skills behind the role.
- Build and show your work. That’s what carries the most weight here.
- Expect some ambiguity. Not every opportunity will be clearly defined.
- Stay close to the people and organizations doing work you’re curious about.
Additional Strategies:
- Don’t forget to explore your industry’s national professional association. Many offer job boards, career development resources, mentorship opportunities, industry insights, and more.
- It’s also worth bookmarking the websites you find most helpful and setting up job alerts that align with your interests. Sometimes the right opportunity is less about where you search and more about consistently staying connected to the field.
