Science Communicators of North Carolina

When the Science Communicators of North Carolina (SCONC) held its first meeting on Thursday, April 26, 2007, the purpose was to gauge people’s interest in getting together informally and talking about science. The gathering of about 50 people that evening reflected the diverse community of science lovers living in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, also known as the “Research Triangle.” Science writers, teachers, university staff, science museum curators, scientists, and everyone else interested in communicating science mingled and talked shop, while enjoying a delicious spread of food and drink. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina hosted the affair, an outing that would be a prelude to an organization that has spent many years cultivating a love of science across the state.
