The Process – Working in Healthcare Series

The Duke Career Center Career Development Process and accompanying skills require ongoing reflection and adaptability. At times, you might feel uncertain of next steps or what path to choose.

When taking the next steps in your journey, whether forward, sideways, up, or down, the process is relative to you as a person. Whether you come to the next step with tons of experience, or you are bringing a still developing resume – the next step may seem insurmountable.

This of course is a bird’s eye view, but if we take your journey under a microscope, perhaps we identify the various ways in which this process can play out for you and your interest in healthcare.

Healthcare, of course, is a broad reaching term covering clinical, research, educational, business settings – to name a few. When it comes to making a decision about the next right step in your process, the items in your future could include a scalpel, a micropipette, or even a gavel. The only way to know for sure, is to go on a bit of a journey– thus, I introduce to you, the Career Center process for Career Development:

Know Yourself
Explore values and identify themes in your interests

Explore Options
Research careers that align with your interests, strengths, and circumstances

Focus & Prepare

Take Action
