A Content Creator and a Social Media Manager are not the same thing.

Here’s a quick run down:

A Social Media Manager is responsible for creating a social media strategy that aligns with the overall marketing goals of a brand. They manage the everyday activities of the account, including responding to comments, direct messages, monitoring social media mentions, planning, scheduling, content publication, community management and take care of analytics and reporting. (There is more but, I’m trying to keep my ting brief)

A Content Creator is responsible for completely producing content for social media intended to educate, engage and entertain an audience. Content creators are focused on understanding and building a community on social media through video and pictures.

There is an overlap between social media content creators and social media managers but, they’re not the same.

Someone can be one or the other or someone can be both.

Most SMMs offer content creation and are able to take on those skills but, not all do. I feel sometimes there is an underlying expectation all Social Media Mangers can create content or even want to and that’s not the case.

Also, if someone is taking on both roles they should be compensated accordingly.
