POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction and daily supervision of the Full Time Program Directors and Camp Director, the Summer Program Director implements Camp Programs. The Summer Program Director serves as member of the Leadership staff. Room and board is provided.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Adheres and complies with the YMCA of High Point Employee Manual, Policy & Procedures Manual, Code of Conduct and Camp Cheerio Staff Standards & Expectations.
2. Organizes and prepares materials needed for camper activity registrations.
3. Schedules all staff into activities they will be teaching and/or assisting each session.
4. Organizes and schedules all campers into their daily/weekly activities.
5. Provides copies of schedules to all staff and campers.
6. Assists staff in preparing lesson plans and the implementation of those plans.
7. Provides lesson plans when requested or needed.
8. Accounts for all staff and campers at each activity on a daily basis.
9. Communicates efficiently and confidentially any concerns to staff pertaining to activity performance or safety issues to the Full-Time Program Directors.
10. Provides positive feedback on a regular basis to staff and their activity implementations.
11. Recognizes staff abilities or limitations in providing an activity and schedule accordingly.
12. Inventories and maintains equipment for all activities on a regular basis, informing Full-Time Program Directors when equipment needs repair or replacements.
13. Plans, organizes and implements rainy day programs and activities.
14. Maintains records for all program areas, such as checks on equipment, supplies, etc.
15. Participates in staff evaluations both written and verbally in conjunction with Head Counselors and Personnel Director.
16. Ensures that all program areas meet safety regulations and standards.
17. Discusses with staff and Directors opportunities for improvement of activities or implementation of new activities that would enhance Camp’s Programs.
18. Guides staff in communication with Transportation Director for out of camp trips.
19. Administers basic first aid until qualified medical personnel arrive.
20. Serves as an active member of the Leadership Staff, assisting in a weekend camper supervision, evaluations, and participating as a leader in other areas of camp as determined by the Camp Director.
21. Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
22. Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the YMCA.
23. Performs other duties and tasks as requested by immediate supervisor to facilitate efficient and effective operation of the YMCA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum age of 21 years.
2. Current certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
3. Three years’ experience in organized camp or related field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential job duties. Auditory ability to respond to critical situations. Ability to respond in emergency situations.
