Summary Description:
The Distribution System Engineer Intern will work at a distribution cooperative alongside their staff to learn job tasks that bring the classroom learning to life. Prior job experiences include data analysis and reporting, equipment maintenance and installation, new powerline staking, warehouse operations, and work planning, communications, and system protection relay coordination and high-level programming.
Academic and Trade Qualifications:
Pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree with a desire to problem solve. Ideally the student should be entering their Junior or Senior level course work. Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Access and VBA a plus). Able to work in normal office and outdoor conditions. Perform well both individually and within a team. Able to be responsible for a project from start to finish. Strong communications skills with an emphasis on developing presentations and reports.
Work Experience:
Experience working in an office environment is desirable.
Responsibilities:
· Meet with member EMC to discuss project assignments, milestones, and deadlines.
· Work remotely under the supervision of a member EMC staff member to complete project assignments.
· Apply technical problem-solving skills to recommend improvements to existing processes.
· Assist with the analysis of data.
· Communicating research and results to management through reports and development of presentations.
· Developing professional skills.
Job Knowledge:
A basic knowledge of the electric utility industry is desirable. Must know engineering economy principles.
Abilities and Skills:
Must be able to effectively prepare written reports, memos, and correspondence and be able to communicate effectively with others. A detailed working knowledge about the use of personal computers is necessary, including software applications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is required.
Relationships and Contacts:
Reports to: Director of Grid Management and is accountable to him for results achieved.
· Internal Relationships: Responsible for maintaining internal relationships necessary to achieve the purpose of the position and the desired results.
· External Relationships: Intern will be assigned to a member EMC staff member who will provide work assignments.
Working Conditions:
Daily commuting to member EMC office in either Ahoskie, Enfield, or Tarboro NC. One position will be in Buxton, NC with housing. Work location will be either a normal office conditions or outdoors. Personal Protection Equipment and steel toe boots will be provided.
