POSITION: Master Control Operator DEPARTMENT: Operations

POSITION PURPOSE:
RNN is currently looking for skilled Master Control Operators to support our HD facilities. The role of the MCO is to monitor/control live and automated play-out of multichannel networks. Work in a team environment during fast-paced, high-pressure broadcasts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor on-air presence – two years’ experience with channel-in-a-box automation and standard one automation systems (Rushworks, Channel Box, etc.).
- Ensure highest quality “on air” presentation
- Document traffic, playlist or other issues that effect on air quality
- Countdown, monitor and switch live news and production sources
- Maintain station traffic log, run pre-taped and live programming, respond to timing change at a moment’s notice
- Preview playlists to ensure all assets are available and ready for broadcast as scheduled
- Evaluate technical quality of content and assure standards are being met
- Submit timely discrepancy reports on scheduling, traffic and on-air irregularities
- Ensure closed captioning and distribution feed routing are accurate
- Reports equipment problems to Engineers and perform emergency workarounds
- Process work order requests for time compression services
- Highly focused and able to react to technical issues quickly and responsibly

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4 year college degree; 1 to 2 years of experience working in broadcast/cable environment with basic knowledge of production equipment and production techniques, computer-based production as well as basic knowledge of video/audio signal and tape dynamics.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Prior experience working with Broadcast Automaton systems preferred
- Operating knowledge of broadcast routing and monitoring systems
- Levelheaded and able to perform multiple complex tasks
- Attention to detail, able to complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Dependable, punctual, regular and consistent attendance
- Available to work any shift assigned in a 7X 24 broadcast environment
- Strong customer service orientation
- Working knowledge of computer systems, SD and HD formats
- Ability to work independently and interact effectively with external departments.
- Detail oriented, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
