TxDOT’s Austin District is looking for Engineering Assistants I, II or III in our Austin Metro Engineering Assistant Program. All employees classified as Engineering Assistants are required to participate in the Engineering Assistant Career Development program. Participation in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP) requires that employees sign a Program Agreement, which outlines employee responsibilities and service time commitment.

Salary Plan/Grade:
Engineering Assistant I: B20: ($48,158.00 – $77,477.00/yearly)
Engineering Assistant II: B21: ($51,278.00 – $82,901.00/yearly)
Engineering Assistant III: B22: ($54,614.00 – $88,703.00/yearly)
Travel: Yes, 5 % of the Time Shift: Day Job Shift Details: This position works 40-hours per week, M-F. Hours may vary based on location. Location Flexibility: Onsite Location Flexibility Details: Limited remote work may be available.

Position Description
Performs entry-level engineering work. Work involves job rotation, training and continuing education in design, construction, construction inspection, maintenance, surveying, environmental and transportation operations-related activities with the intent to actively pursue engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer who has authority for final approval of all projects. Work requires some contact with local governmental representatives, engineering contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Actively prepares for professional engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams and completion/maintenance of required documentation.
- Applies engineering principles, methods, and techniques to a wide variety of transportation-related activities.
- Participates in Career Development for the Engineering Assistants program which includes job rotation, training, and continuing education.
- Performs engineering-related calculations and drafting/design work.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to perform field investigations.
- Performs traffic analysis and data collection.
- Performs construction inspection and material sampling/testing.
- Prepares environmental assessments.
- Assist in creating plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
- Uses automated roadway/structural or hydraulic design programs and computer-assisted design/engineering systems.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for TxDOT.
