Revisit your search approach

You may come to a point in your search where you’re frustrated because it’s not working the way you hoped. This may be great time to re-visit your search approach to focus your attention in critical areas. Here are some ways to do that.

✅ Connect with people to gain insight and feedback about your current approach. Here are two suggestions:

  • Make an appointment with a career coach! This is one of the best reasons to set up an appointment and we’ll help you sort through what you’re doing, what is working and not, changes to try, and where to focus your attention based on the review of evidence.
  • Check in with one or two of the professional allies and supporters you trust and have talked to so far. Write a status update and ask if they’d be willing to have a chat to give you feedback on where changes in your strategy seem most important.
✅ Read articles with first hand experience and/or practical tips for recalibrating your search and moving forward.
  • This article written by a neuroscience researcher reviews the ways he searched after completing his PhD during the pandemic. The focus is “conquering social isolation” and there are lots of practical tips.
  • This article from Resume Worded gives 8 reasons you may not be getting hired and breaks them down.
